Metrolinx UP Express Goes Digital

PrintThe X2O visual communications platform is driving a network of digital signage displays providing timely and current information to thousands of travellers on Metrolinx’s Union Pearson (UP) Express. The new express rail train now connects Canada’s busiest transportation hubs — Toronto’s Union Station and Toronto Pearson International Airport in just 25 minutes, departing every 15 minutes. The digital display network was an essential component of the new UP Express train service that opened in time for the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games in the summer of 2015.
The X2O platform powers approximately 80 digital display screens across all four stations along the UP Express route. The networked screens inform travellers when the next train will arrive and which track will be used, supply up-to-date flight information and provide the latest news and weather. All of these real-time data sources are automatically updated on the digital displays, keeping the information current and relevant to travellers and minimizing the amount of manual content updates by UP Express staff.

Metrolinx 4The integration between the X2O platform and the UP Express messaging system enables very targeted messages, with staff able to target messages to specific display screens and even to specific zones within a screen. UP Express staff are able to take over an entire screen for priority emergency messaging or urgent alerts as required. The X2O platform, which integrates with numerous media players, integrated with Cisco Interactive Experience Client (IEC) players to drive engaging content throughout the UP Express route.

With the ability of the X2O platform to work with any kind of display screen type, UP Express will be able to continue to grow its network and add new digital displays of any configuration to keep travellers informed in new and creative ways.
